Day 2 Satema Tea Estate

Satemwa Tea Estate, founded in 1923 in Malawi’s Thyolo District, is one of Africa’s oldest and most celebrated tea plantations. Nestled in the Shire Highlands at 1,000–1,200m, it offers stunning views over Mount Mulanje and the Lower Shire Valley. Still family-owned, Satemwa produces world-class black, green, white, oolong, and dark teas, as well as specialty creations like Chikondi Beads, alongside estate-grown coffee. A Fairtrade-certified pioneer, the estate is committed to sustainability and community welfare, providing healthcare, education, housing, and smallholder support while protecting forests and biodiversity.
